Since 1952, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian has delivered a level of personalized care that is unsurpassed among Orange County’s health care providers. Renowned for its excellence, specialized health care services and exceptional physicians and staff, Hoag is admired as one of California’s leading hospitals.
The nonprofit hospital is guided by an 18-member Board of Directors. Richard Afable, M.D. served as president and CEO of Hoag through February 28, 2012, until he assumed the position of president and CEO of Hoag’s affiliation with St. Joseph Health. On March 1, 2013, Robert Braithwaite became president and CEO of Hoag.
Hoag is one of the largest acute care hospitals in Orange County and one of the county’s largest employers, with nearly 5,000 employees and 2,000 volunteers. The hospital is located on two main campuses in Newport Beach and Irvine, and operates five urgent care centers and seven health centers throughout the county. Hoag’s network of more than 1,500 physicians represents 52 different specialties. Hoag has been named one of the Best Regional Hospitals in the U.S. News and World Report Metro Edition. The organization was ranked nationally for Orthopedics and placed high-ranking in Cancer, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Pulmonary, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Neurology & Neurosurgery and Urology.
Hoag is fully accredited by DNV, and both Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and Hoag Hospital Irvine are designated Magnet hospitals by the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Hoag offers a comprehensive blend of health care services that include five institutes providing specialized care in the following areas:
• Hoag Family Cancer Institute is on the leading edge of cancer treatment and offers patients a full range of advanced cancer therapies, as well as access to new investigational treatments.
• Hoag Heart and Vascular Institute is one of the preeminent cardiovascular centers on the West Coast, achieving international and national accreditation for many of its programs. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons placed Hoag in the highest category for quality cardiac surgery, a rating achieved by only 12 percent of hospitals nationwide.
• Hoag Neurosciences Institute incorporates the latest diagnostic technologies, treatment modalities and integration of medical specialists to deliver the highest quality care for all complex brain and spine neurological disorders.
• Hoag Women’s Health Institute improves the lives of the women it serves with personalized, integrated care through prevention, wellness and treatment. Offering leading technology and innovative approaches to care in breast, gynecologic and maternal child health, the Women’s Health Institute is an important resource that will continue serving the women of Orange County for decades to come.
• Hoag Orthopedic Institute is poised to be one of the highest volume single site orthopedic inpatient hospitals in the Western United States. The institute focuses primarily on orthopedic reconstructive surgery for adults, including joint replacement, spine surgery, and trauma-related surgery that requires inpatient care.
